The Colonial Schipperke Club came into existence in the Washington, D.C. area in 1969, when a group of Schipperke fanciers met and established the club to serve the interests of the breed and fancy on the eastern seaboard. Since the original members included individuals from New Jersey to North Carolina, the "Colonial" name seemed quite fitting. The majority of our members live in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

Many of Colonial's club activities are related to dog shows, obedience and agility trials, the membership of the club does includes many people who have no particular interest in the competitive side of the dog fancy, preferring instead, the easy sociability of a group with a common interest in a remarkable breed of dogs. Many of our events, like the annual summer “SchipNic”, are purely family fun events.

Our annual awards dinner recognizes member achievements in competition within the areas of conformation and performance events. The Colonial Schipperke Club is very active in the more challenging and rewarding field of Schipperke Rescue. Colonial’s record in this lifesaving enterprise is exemplary. Since 1992, the club has placed over 200 Schips have been placed in new homes.

Several of our members are active breeders, and bring long experience in dog care, training, reproduction, and conformation to the club. The CSC includes a number of members who are owned by just one Schip, or who may be between Schips, and who offer their time and services in support of club activities. The Colonial Club invites all those who share their joy in Schipperkes to join in helping to preserve, protect and promote this wonderful breed.
