Rescue Services
The Colonial Schipperke Club provides rescue services in the Mid-Atlantic area
mainly in the states of Maryland, Virginia, and lower Pennsylvania
for families, organizations, and individuals
who have purebred Schipperkes that they can no longer keep with them.
If you know of a purebred Schipperke who is in need of rescue, please contact our Rescue Transfer Coordinator. If you are located outside of the Mid-Atlantic area,
please view the list of other Schipperke rescue organizations listed below.
Adoption Services
The Colonial Schipperke Club's Rescue Program occasionally has wonderful Schips available to suitable homes. Many of them are of unknown origin, but have been observed and evaluated by the foster care provider, and evaluated as ready to be placed in new and loving homes. You should be aware that most of them have lost their families through no fault of their own, and you should appreciate that we will be very selective in placing them.
Do not expect that our foster Schips will be house broken; some are, but even these individuals will normally need to be re-trained in their new homes. They are sometimes leash and crate trained, but will need close supervision to learn their new rules. Our rescue Schipperkes are usually from 3-6 years old, mostly males, and, of course, all will be spayed or neutered before being placed.
There is an adoption fee for each dog that is placed in a new home. This fee is used to offset the medical expenses of all Schipperkes who come into the rescue program.
Please note that we prefer to place our foster Schips in homes that have fenced yards. You will be expected to meet with either our Rescue Coordinator or one of our foster care providers to be considered as a home for one of our rescue Schipperkes. Generally, our Schips go to homes in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Occasionally, we place Schips in homes in other nearby states on a case-by-case basis. Our Schipperkes are transferred directly from the foster home to the new home ... we do not ship any of our Schipperkes.
If you think you can provide a permanent home for one of our rescue Schipperkes,
or know someone who can, please contact us.
